Nanci Hattem started Second Nature Plants in 1988 as a way to combine her vast knowledge of plants with her interior design skills.
“I started Second Nature because I kept meeting business owners who needed high quality interior plants selected for light, the right use of space, and complete maintenance that stressed plant health cleanliness. I felt that customers were entitled to a qualified horticulturist to make their offices shine. Plants are known to have many health benefits, and since I love plants, it was a natural decision.”
Nanci holds a holds a degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Butte College, and worked as a landscape designer and groundskeeper prior to starting Second Nature. Her technical proficiency in all aspects of plant care allows her to troubleshoot problems before they are noticeable. She also understands that all interior spaces are different, so she invests as much time as necessary assessing her clients’ needs during the design process, and incorporating their feedback into their working relationship thereafter.
“My greatest rewards are the relationships I develop with my clients over time, and seeing the positive effects my plantscape designs have on their businesses. The benefits that beautiful interior foliage brings to their spaces – and to the lives of the people who work in them – is truly incredible.”
